About NICEIC
National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting (NICEIC)
The NICEIC is the electrical contracting industry’s independent, not-for-profit regulatory body covering the whole of the UK. The NICEIC’s objective is to protect consumers against unsafe workmanship by raising technical standards within the industry.
Why use an NICEIC approved contractor?
- Work is carried out to the national safety standard BS 7671
- Customers get an electrical installation certificate confirming that the work meets the national safety standard
- Approved contractors are periodically assessed
- Work is covered by a Guarantee of Standards scheme and complaints resolution service
Only competent contractors should be employed to carry out electrical work
in homes, offices, shops and factories. The NICEIC maintains a Roll of Approved
Contractors capable of safe, good quality work. By selecting contractors from
the NICEIC's Roll, specifiers know that the required safety standards underwritten
by the NICEIC will be met.
For further information see the NICEIC
web site
Since January 2005 electrical installations are covered under Part P of the building
control regulations. Certification is notified direct to the NICEIC and your
local Building Control Department will be informed directly of the work completed
and the contractor carrying out the work.
Each notified installation is covered by the NICEIC insurance warrenty scheme.
